Zipp Sponsored Triathlete Desiree Ficker Wins Austin AT&T Half Marathon

In what turned out to be a very productive training day, Austin's own Desiree Ficker had an easy win in the women's division of the Austin AT&T Half Marathon with a time of 1:18:17.

Last year, Desiree surprised the elite running world with her second-place finish in the Austin AT&T Marathon, qualifying her for the Olympic Marathon Trials in Boston on April 20. As part of her training for the Trials, she breezed through the Half this year, coming in over 5 minutes ahead of second-place finisher, Bridget Montgomery.

"It's always great to win at home," said Desiree, "but, I am already focused on what I have to do next. I'll be heading up to Flagstaff for some altitude training so I will get to the line in Boston as prepared as I possibly can be!"

On April 20, 2008 Desiree will compete for one of three slots on the U.S. Olympic Marathon Team in order to represent the U.S. in Beijing this Summer.  The United States Olympic Marathon Trials will be held in Boston the day before the Boston Marathon.  For more information about Desiree, go to www.desireeficker.com.

Overall Victory for Soeder in Geelong Tour

The 33-year-old Christiane Soeder (AUT) from the Cervélo-Lifeforce Pro Cycling Team claimed victory in the Geelong Tour in Australia with a total race time of 4:41:14 and a margin of 10 seconds ahead Ina Teutenberg (GER, High Road Team), who took second place in the overall ranking.

Soeder helped secure her victory in the 8 km time trial. There, she won the race with a great performance that was 36 seconds ahead of her competitors.

In Sunday's third and final stage over a distance of 91.2 km (6 x 15.2 km) Soeder finished 23rd, only 5 seconds behind the winner of the race Ina Teutenberg.

"I’m very happy. It was an amazing victory for me but it’s also a victory for the whole team. My team did a great job," said Soeder.

The Cervélo-Lifeforce Pro Cycling Team also won the Team ranking ahead of Team High Road.

On Sunday, the Cervélo-Lifeforce Pro Cycling team will compete in the 2008 Geelong Women’s Road World Cup.

Belinda Granger Wins Ironman Malaysia

Zipp athlete Belinda Granger won Ironman Malaysia last weekend. Congratulations Belinda! She had this comment to share with Zipp: Well I am a very happy girl right now having won my first Ironman race of the year in Langkawi, Malaysia. It was a tough day from beginning to end but I felt strong and in control all day leading the race from start to finish. It is the first time in a long time that I have been able to finish off the marathon and really bring it home strong. I must admit that even though I knew I had the win in my hands I really had to fight the last 3kms to the finish line. It was a very satisfying feeling to take out my 6th WTC Ironman win and my 8th IM distance race. I set myself up nicely on the bike with the fastest bike split of the day and then finished it off with a really strong marathon. I also broke the course record by just over 13 minutes to come home in a time of 9hrs29.
