New ZEDTECH Dimpled hubs: Because at the pinnacle of our sport, 6 seconds is a lifetime

1 watt = 2-3 seconds over 40K. And when you consider that the 33k TT at this year’s Vuelta came down to a few 100ths of a second between 1st and 2nd place you understand why squeezing every precious watt out of your technology is so important.

To the hub of the matter

Our wind tunnel data shows there is a mass of turbulence tumbling off the back of a standard hub. If we could smooth out that airflow, it would glide over the trailing rim and tire to save 2-3 precious watts at 30 mph. Using the same computer flow software, employed by the world’s most advanced golf ball designer, we created an optimized dimple pattern of varying diameters, depths and shapes to do just that – hey, why squander all that technology on golf?

Easier said than done

Here’s the difficult part. Translating a complex dimple pattern to a convex metal surface is a machining task that falls just short of black magic – so difficult in fact, most Department of Defense contractors won’t touch it. We did. And this is the result. Our new hub has already bagged a Tour de France stage win, and a world time trial championship. Now it’s ready to win for you. Say hello to the podium girls for us.

ZED2 - Where it flies

The first climbing wheel developed in the wind tunnel, the 202 is light and aero (32mm deep), ideal for acceleration on steep grades, but energy saving on the flats and downhills. This is truly a no compromise climbing wheel that delivers before you get to the hill and while you coast down the other side.

ZED3 - Where it flies

The ZED3 soars when the roads lead to a Hors Categorie mountaintop finish. The new 44mm rim shape preserves nearly all the aerodynamic advantage our deeper rims while pairing weight to the barest of minimums – just 290 grams in the standard tubular rim configuration (450 grams in clincher). It’s also an excellent “all-day” wheel choice for flyweight climbers and smaller females who are tired of getting blown around by cross winds. Snappy on the ascent, stable on the descent, and quick on curves, the ZED3 is as hungry for the steep grades as you are.

ZED4 - Where it flies

Put simply, if you were sent on a round-the-world mission to win as many cycling events as possible and could only bring one wheelset, this would be it. Triathlon, road racing, time trials, flats and rolling hills, the ZED4’s supremely versatile 58mm rim profile has earned its place as our top performer in nearly every pursuit over almost every terrain. The deep rim profile and patent pending aerodynamic dimpled pattern improves airflow to deliver an average gain of 1 to 4 watts of energy in very nearly all condition. Light enough to climb the Tourmalet, slippery enough to forge a 4-hour solo breakaway, or to conquer the ITU circuit. The ZED4 is the wheel our pros reach more than any other.

ZED8 - Where it flies

The ZED8 takes nearly all of the aerodynamic advantages of twin discs and wraps them in a lighter, more stable package than anyone could previously imagine. Hours and hours of fine-tuning rim shape in the wind tunnel has yielded the fastest non-disc set up in the world. And yes, they are faster and lighter than your venerable old dual tri-spoke set up. Rest assured you’ll blast out of the transition zone and immediately start setting new personal records.

We took the world’s best aero wheel and improved it. This patented torodial 108mm rim with ABLC dimples and Carbon Bridge™ technology tames the wind like no other deep section wheel. If you are a V8 block kind of rider, who thrives in cross-winds and see TTs as a way to punish skinny climbers, this is your weapon.

The all new Sub9 shares the benefits of our carbon bridge technology and shatters every drag record in cycling with a measured -80 drag reading at 15 degrees of yaw.
