Craig Alexander Captures 2008 Ford Ironman World Championship on Zipp 404 and 808!
Kona, HI - Australian Craig Alexander held his own on the bike and blistered the run to capture his first Ford Ironman World Championship in only his second attempt. Alexander, known as "Crowie," crossed the line with a time of 8:17:45. Crowie averaged over 24 m.p.h. on the bike with a Zipp 404 front and 808 rear as his wheels of choice to conquer the winds of Kona. He then proceeded to set a blistering 6:17 pace per mile on the run to move up from 11th to 1st in the sweltering October heat. Zipp sponsored athletes also took 1st and 2nd in the bike leg with Torbjorn Sindballe riding a 4:27:40 and Normann Stadler riding a 4:29:56 bike leg. Other Zipp Athletes fared well among the top 15.
