Cancellara Second in TT - 5 Zipps in Top Ten.
Team Saxo Bank’s Fabian Cancellara finished second in Thursday’s Tour de France time trial. The Olympic Champion and two-time World Champion from Switzerland crossed the line 3 seconds slower than the Tour’s overall leader Alberto Contador. Fabian’s time trial machine was equipped with a Zipp Sub-9 rear wheel, a Zipp 1080 front wheel and SRAM Red components.
Zipp had four other riders in the top ten in the time trial:
4 Gustav Erik Larsson (SWE) Team Saxo Bank
5 David Millar (GBR) Garmin-Slipstream
6 Bradley Wiggins (GBR) Garmin-Slipstream
10 David Zabriskie (USA) Garmin - Slipstream
Zipp athletes are also well positioned in the Tour’s general classification. Andy Schleck (LUX) of Team Saxo Bank sits second overall while Bradley Wiggins hangs on to fourth and Frank Schleck (LUX) is in sixth place. American Christian Vande Velde is in 8th place on GC.
Meanwhile, Cervelo Test Team’s Thor Hushovd (NOR) has a 30 point lead in the Tour’s competition for the green sprinter’s jersey after is solo attack on Wednesday. Thor has been riding ZEDTECH 4s with special green decals that mark his lead in the points classification. Look for Thor to move to the front for the sprint on Sunday.
