Multiple Road Wins for Zipp Teams

Zipp sponsored teams won multiple races last weekend beginning with Fabian Cancellara’s (SWI) Tour of Oman overall victory.  ”As both Olympic and World time trial champion, the pressure was naturally on my shoulders today. The time trial was harder than many others I have done as I was unable to train for ten days in January because of illness and I am really not in the peak shape right now. The overall victory here in Oman is the culmination upon fourteen days in both Qatar and Oman where we have been very active on each and every stage, we have been working very well together and the victory is not just mine. It goes to the team as well. In many ways, it has been a pleasure riding in Oman where no race was done before. Professionally, I have been riding a lot of important race kilometers in nice weather conditions far away from the snow. Personally, I have discovered a culture I probably wouldn't have experienced if I wasn't a professional rider. The race has been well-organized, the roads have been safe and the people of both Qatar and Oman are very friendly and open-minded.”

In India, teammate J.J. Haedo (ARG) won the inaugural Mumbai Classic.  ”Mumbai Classic is a new race with big ambitions for the future and it was a first time to India for all of us. They rode super together and controlled the bunch consisting mainly of Asian continental teams. JJ and Cooke broke clear of the bunch and with two laps to go, JJ took off in the winning break with Dirk Muller (Nutrixxion) and he easily won the sprint,” says sports director Bradley McGee after Team Saxo Bank’s second win in three days.

Tour de France Champion, Alberto Contador (ESP), won his second consecutive Volta ao Algarve.  Contador took control of the race with the victory in stage four and managed a second place finish in the final time trial to secure the overall victory.

The spring classics begin this weekend with Omloop Het Nieuwsblad.  Cervelo’s Thor Hushovd (NOR) won the race last year on a prototype version of the new Zipp 303 wheelset.
