Vino takes stage 13 on 404s

Near the top of the Côte de Saint-Ferréol, Alexander Vinokourov sensed an opportunity.

On 58mm-deep Zipp 404s, Vino sped past the previous attackers over the top of the climb and opened a 13-second advantage on the downhill run-in to the finish in Revel. It was a gutsy move, attacking inside the last 8 kilometers and holding off the chasing peloton. Even more impressive, it came the day after the Astana rider's work in a long breakaway earned him the Most Aggressive Rider prize and a near stage win.

Saxo Bank's Andy Schleck still holds the yellow jersey with a 31-second lead over Alberto Contador (Astana). But the Tour enters the Pyrénées tomorrow with a mountain stage including the Port de Pailhères and a finishing climb to Ax-3-Domaines - where Cervélo TestTeam's Carlos Sastre won a stage in 2003.
