Strong performances from Corbin, Henning, and Rapp at IMAZ
Racing in fast conditions that yielded new course records for both men and women, Zipp athletes Linsey Corbin and Rasmus Henning came away with silver medals at Ironman Arizona, while Jordan Rapp announced his full return to form with an emotional 4th place finish.
In his first Ironman race since a nearly fatal hit-and-run accident while training earlier this year, Jordan ran the new 808 Firecrest front wheel and a Super-9 disc emblazoned with custom ³Rappstar Is Backstar² decals. He also used Zipp¹s Tangente tires, VukaAero bar and SL145 stem along with a SRAM RED group.
Rapp led for much of the bike leg and reached T2 in the company of Henning, who rode a 1080/Sub-9 wheelset with SRAM RED, and Timo Bracht. From there, Rasmus waited out a 4-minute penalty that possibly cost him the win. At the finish, he trailed Bracht by just 3:42.
In any previous edition, Linsey¹s time of 9:05:33 would have set the course record. But this time, she had to settle for second behind Chrissie Wellington. Still it was an impressive result for Linsey, who won Ironman Coeur d¹Alene earlier in the year. In Arizona, she used an 808 Firecrest front and a 900 disc with Zipp Tangente tubulars and SRAM RED components.
