Wells, Compton, Antonneau win U.S. National Cyclocross Titles on Zipp
Zipp sponsored athletes dominated the U.S. Cyclocross National Championships in Bend, OR, winning gold in the Elite Men’s, Elite Women’s and U23 Women’s categories.
Katie Compton captured her seventh consecutive U.S. Cyclocross National Championship, winning in dominant fashion. Compton got off to a slow start but made up time to the early race leader Georgia Gould. After pitting to take a new bike, Compton quickly caught back on to Gould and proceeded to slowly pull away from her. Katie went on to win in convincing fashion aboard her Stevens bike equipped with Zipp 303 CX, Zipp SLC2 bars, and Zipp VumaQuad Cranksets.
Meredith Miller of the California Giant Cycling Team started poorly but worked her way to the front of the race to capture the bronze medal aboard her Zipp 303 CX wheels.
Meanwhile, Kaitie Antonneau of Cannondale prepared by Cyclocrossworld.com bounced back from a second place finish in the U.S. Collegiate Cyclocross Championship race to capture the U23 National Title. Katie edged out Peanut Butter & Co.’s Coryn Rivera. Both athletes ride Zipp 303 CX and the Service Course line of bars, stems, seatposts.
Antonneau’s collegiate team, the Marian University Knights, took third place in the collegiate competition.
Jeremy Powers grabbed an early lead in the men’s elite race but Specialized’s Todd Wells quickly caught on. Wells and Powers raced side by side until the two tangled bikes. While Powers stopped to make adjustments to his bike, Wells extended his lead. Bend native Ryan Trebon was in pursuit of Wells the rest of the race but could not close Wells’ ten second gap. Wells went on to capture his third U.S. National Cyclocross Championship, this one on the carbon Zipp 303 CX. Trebon earned the silver medal while Zipp sponsored athletes Jeremy Powers, Jamey Driscoll, and Tim Johnson secured third, fourth, and fifth respectively. Powers, Driscoll and Johnson all ride for Cannondale prepared by Cyclocrossworld.com and all were aboard Zipp 303 CX and Service Course bars, stems, seatposts.
All of the aforementioned Zipp sponsored athletes ride SRAM Red components. Compton and Cannondale prepared by Cyclocrossworld.com also ride Avid Shorty Ultimate brakes.
