Victories aplenty in Argentina

Omega Pharma® – Quick-Step® and Team Saxo Bank® sure made the most of their recent trips to Argentina. The two Zipp®-sponsored UCI WorldTour teams won six of the seven stages at the Tour de San Luis and took the top two spots in the overall standings.

Belgian superstar Tom Boonen capped an impressive week of racing for Omega Pharma – Quick-Step by winning the final stage Sunday in San Luis. American Levi Leipheimer won the general classification to give the team its first stage-race victory of the season.

The team – whose aero-arsenal included the multi-purpose 404 Firecrest® and sleek Super-9 disc -- won four stages. In addition to Boonen’s victory, Italian Francesco Chicchi won back-to-back sprint stages and Leipheimer the time trial.

Boonen was quick to credit the team with help in his win. “With 15 kilometers to go to the arrival we went to work. Everyone including Leipheimer did a great job for me. In the final Chicchi lead me. The speed was very fast but I managed to find a good trajectory and victory was its outcome. It’s a nice feeling to taste victory again,” Boonen said. “I hope this can be the first in a series of high-level performances and that this Tour de San Luis really serves as an example for all the guys on our team.”

In addition to Zipp wheels, Omega Pharma – Quick-Step also rides Specialized frames with Zipp Service Course® SL bars, stems and seatposts, SRAM® RED drivetrains and SRAM-Quarq® power meters.

For Team Saxo Bank, Alberto Contador won the race’s two mountain stages and finished second in the final general classification as he rides himself back into top form. Team Saxo Bank rides Specialized frames with Zipp wheels, Service Course SL and SRAM RED.
