Peter Velits on the rise
Different days bring different Speed Weaponry needs.
On Thursday, Peter Velits of the Omega Pharma – Quick-Step Cycling Team choose a Zipp 404 Firecrest and Super-9 Disc for the crucial at Stage 6 18.4 mile time trial Tuesday at the Amgen Tour of California. Vilets finished an impressive sixth in the time trial, 49 seconds behind winner David Zabriskie.
On Friday's Stage 6 into Big Bear Lake, Velits selected the Zipp 202. The 202, at just 1,099 grams, was a perfect pick for a stage that included a 12-mile climb at 7,000 feet. Velits finished the brutal stage strong to take third on the day, moving him into fourth overall 45 seconds behind Zabriskie.
Saturday’s 78.2 mile (126 km) stage ending with the climb of Mt. Baldy should prove decisive in the overall standings before the Amgen Tour of California ends Sunday.
As he’s proven this week, Peter is an up-and-coming all around racer. He headed to Boulder, Colo., for some high-altitude training about 10 days ahead of the Amgen Tour of California. He’ll be worth watching in the days ahead.
