Six women, 3,479 kilometers - with Zipp wheels

Zipp Speed Weaponry is proud to be part of the Rêve tour -- the all women’s amateur adventure that will trace the 21 stages and 3,479 kilometers (2,173 miles) of the 2012 Tour de France route one day ahead of the pro men’s peloton.

The six Rêve tour participants – Kate Powlison, Heidi Swift, Jennifer Cree, Kym Fant, Kristen Peterson and Maria del Pilar Vazquez – will be riding Zipp 101 and Zipp 303 Firecrest Carbon Clincher wheels as they take on the Tour’s grueling course.

In addition, SRAM has supplied each Rêve rider with SRAM Red-2012 componentry, including a WiFLi specific drivetrain and SRAM RED Quarq power meter. The Zipp wheels provide the women with the same advantages enjoyed by Zipp-sponsored professional athletes. The 101, first fully toroidal aluminum rim, is aero and lightweight yet also durable for long rides over Alpine passes or on farm roads through picturesque French countryside.

The 303 Firecrest Carbon Clincher also is the perfect go-to wheel for the Rêve tour. With a rim depth of 45 mm and width of 28.5 mm, the 303 Firecrest offers unmatched aerodynamics, durability and stability in crosswinds. The revolutionary Firecrest rim shape moves the center of pressure – the focal point of side forces on the rim – to its optimal location near the steering axis to provide stable, predictable handling at every wind angle.

Durability of the Zipp 303 is confirmed by being the winning wheel twice at Paris-Roubaix and three times at the Tour of Flanders. The 303 Firecrest, a favorite of the women of Team Exergy TWENTY12, is a popular choice of women riders and racers as well.
