As we get closer to the Ironman World Championships on the big Island of Hawaii, let’s take a step back to reflect on some of our history at this iconic event.  Zipp wheels, since the introduction of the full toroidal shape, has held the men’s course record of 4:18:23, set by Normann Stadler in 2006, and the women’s record of 4:44:19 set by Karen Theurig in 2011.  Zipp has also been very fortunate to sit atop the wheel category in the annual spec count, since being measured in this metric.

Our history on the island has seen the development of the toroidal and hybrid toroidal shapes.  It has seen the introduction of the Firecrest shaped line of wheels, which won the event in it’s freshman outing in 2010, under Chris McCormack of Australia, and again in 2012 while hosting Pete Jacobs also of Australia.  And in 2012 we also saw the beginning of a paradigm shift within the pro ranks.  Tech savvy athlete’s Sebastian Kienle, Jordan Rapp and Mirinda Carfrae mounted their bikes on Carbon Clinchers, in a professional race, leading the way for others to follow, all with outstanding results.

So, what are we in for this year?  The SRAM family of athletes has grown and internationally diversified yet again.  We are proud to introduce an amazing roster of professional athletes, all vying for one of the coveted top steps on the World Championship podium.  They all have one thing in common, a desire and an understanding of the technological advantage the SRAM family of components offers them.  From the flat out speed and unparalleled stability of the Zipp Firecrest wheel line up, to the superior rolling resistance and convenience of Carbon Clinchers.  The lightest, most reliable and most diverse drivetrain that is SRAM RED.  And lastly, showing their trust and reliance on the dependability and accuracy of their Quarq power meters.

Below are a few of the professionals that we are supporting come October 12th.  From the time that the cannon fires over “Dig Me Beach”, to the time that Mike Reilly emphatically yells, “You are THE Ironman World Champion”, these athletes are under the dependable and reliable arm of SRAM and our line of products.  These athletes would not toe the line on this day without them, and we would not send them there with anything less.
