Dan Hugo

Sport/discipline: Xterra Triathlon

Hometown: Stellenbosch, South Africa; Boulder, Colo.

Current residence: Stellenbosch, South Africa

About Dan: As Dan says, my racing is an effort to avoid the real world as best I can for as long as I can. So far so good. Although he did start triathlon at age 9, three years of university were completed before racing full time from 2007.

SRAM® products used: I play across the board, using both mountain, road and TT specific SRAM products.

Zipp® products useds: 101 Clincher, 808 Firecrest®.

Favorite SRAM product and why: R2C Shifter – such a happy change to simplicity and comfort.

Favorite Zipp product and why: TT arms pads – critical point of contact and arm pads are just so, changing niggling for bliss.

Do you train with a SRAM-Quarq power meter? I do, both on the Specialized® Shiv and SL3.

What is one surprising or helpful thing you learned about yourself from training and/or racing with power? How relative power feels. The same power on a downhill versus climb are like peas and carrots.

You’re stranded on a desert island and you have to choose one of each of the following:

One album? Mumford & Sons, "Sigh no More"

One candy? It’ll have to be a quality ice cream

One vice? The iPhone with internet connectivity

Notable Race Results:

Second at Xterra World Champs 2011
