VumaQuad
Please note Zipp has discontinued this item to focus on our core product lines of wheels, bars, stems and seatposts. We will continue to warranty and support any Zipp cranks. Weighing as little as 580 grams, the VumaQuad the lightest crankset and bottom bracket system ever to pass the rigorous CEN testing protocol for racing bikes. It's also stood up to seasons of abuse from cyclocross star Katie Compton. But the true brilliance of the VumaQuad is that Zipp’s engineers were able to achieve that benchmark with a design that’s stiffer than any other crankset we’ve tested, except for our own VumaChrono. The heart of the VumaQuad is its unique 4-bolt chainring system that allows you to switch between standard 53/39 and compact 50/34 chainrings. For increased thread engagement and system stiffness, three bolts thread directly into the small chainring while the fourth is integrated into the crankarm. The chainrings themselves are specially designed to shift flawlessly without flexing, even when sprinting out of the saddle. The VumaQuad’s 146mm Q-factor is the narrowest available and its 30mm spindle is the largest and stiffest ever used in a traditional bottom bracket. The VumaQuad system includes our bottom bracket with impeccably smooth grade 3 silicon nitride after market ceramic gold cups and bearings and a purpose-designed installation tool made by Pedro’s. The VumaQuad is compatible with BB30 bottom brackets when used with the optional spacer kit. Available in four lengths from 170-180mm with 53/39 or 50/34 chainrings. Replacement chainrings are available in the Zipp online store. Caution – The new Shimano 7900 chain requires extra care and finesse to work properly with original VumaQuad chain rings. Our re-designed chain rings (available June 2010) work with Campy11 and 7900. Make sure they say "Teflon Hard Anodized" etched in white on the ring.
