Slipstream Wins Opening TTT in Giro; Vande Velde in Pink!

May 11, 2008

American Christian Vande Velde crossed the line first as Team Slipstream Chipotle Powered by H30 scorched the opening team time trial of the Giro Italia.  The team was equipped with the fastest race wheels in the universe, riding 808 or 1080 front wheels with disc wheels of the 900 or Sub-9 variety on the back.   For more visit the team's website at www.slipstreamsports.com.

Team CSC, also on Zipp wheels, finished second in the TTT, just six seconds behind Slipstream.  Chris Anker Sørensen holds the white jersey as the tour's best young rider.

Exciting performances from Zipp athletes

Alexander and Carfrae take titles at St. Croix 70.3

Marinda Carfrae (riding a 404f + 1080r) used the bike split to make up time lost on the swim and to put her in the lead for the run, a position she maintained for the rest of the race. Craig Alexander made his move on the run passing Cameron Brown who finished second.

Matt Reed wins bike split at ITU World Championships, Richards Bay, South Africa

Suring at the end of the bike split, Matt Reed was able to gain a 20 second advantage. This proved insufficient to win him the race as he was passed within the last kilometer on the run by Germany's Daniel Unger. This was the third weekend in a row on the podium for Reed after wins at Tuscaloosa and St. Anthony’s.

McGlone wins third victory at Wildflower

Samantha McGlone took her third overall victory at Wildflower proving once again her dominance of the hardest half Ironman course around.

Karsten Kroon of CSC wins 48th Rund um den Henninger Turm - 1.HC

After winning this race last in 2004, this was Kroon's turn on the podium and a sip of that famous beer once again. Karsten wins a close sprint after being in a 9 man final break-away. Andy Schleck (CSC) helped Karsten to the win by keeping the pace high and preventing the pack catching the break-away.

Lowe Climbs High, Schlecks 3rd and 4th in L-B-L, Zipp Athletes Dominate at St. Anthony's Tri

April 28, 2008

Australian climbing ace Trent Lowe of Team Slipstream Chipotle Powered by H30 took second on Saturday's Brasstown Bald stage of the Tour de Georgia.  The rider, on Zipp 202s, bested Team Astana's Levi Leipheimer (USA) but forfeited the overall lead to High Road's Kanstantin Siutsou (BLR).  Lowe ended up second overall in the seven-stage tour while grabbing the race's Best Young Rider award.  For more, visit the team's website.

Also at the Tour de Georgia, Jason McCartney rode his way to the tour's King of the Mountains award.  Across the globe, brothers Frank and Andy Schleck (LUX) rode to 3rd and 4th places respectively in the spring classic Liege-Bastonge-Liege.  Andy's long solo break-away was not enough to hold off eventual race winner Alejandro Valverde (ESP), second place David Rebellin (ITA), and brother Frank.  Team CSC's website has all the details.  Watch the action on cycling.tv.

In Triathlon, Zipp athletes dominated the St. Anthony's Triathlon in Florida.  Matt Reed (USA) once again showed his peers his form, setting the fastest time in the bike leg and capturing first overall.  Other Zipp athletes in the top 5 include Andy Potts (USA) second, Craig Alexander (AUS) fourth and Richie Cunningham (USA) in fifth.  Sarah Haskins (USA) won the women's race by over a minute while Zipp athletes Mirinda Carfrae (AUS) and Sam McGlone (CAN) took third and fourth respectively.
