ALTERNATE VIEWS
303 Cyclocross

The qualities that make the 303 ideal for road races like Paris-Roubaix also make it the ultimate tubular cyclocross wheelset, as selected by riders like Tim Johnson, Todd Wells, Katie Compton, and Jeremy Powers. Its 45mm deep, 27.5mm wide, fully toroidal rim profile acts like a leaf spring to dampen vibration on rough surfaces and minimize the chance of damage from major impacts.

Despite its toughness and stability, the 303 Cyclocross is lighter than many dedicated climbing wheelsets at just 1206 grams and provides excellent lateral stiffness when accelerating out of technical corners and punching over short, steep hills.

The 303’s wide, deep tire bed makes it easy to mount 32mm ‘cross tubulars and adds protection against pinch flats at low pressure. Its angled brake track improves modulation in all conditions. When the weather warms up, the 303 excels as a light, stiff road racing wheelset with the added benefits of Zipp’s exclusive aero technologies like our ABLC™ dimples.

The cyclocross version of the 303 is built with Zipp’s fully sealed 88/188 hubset with 24 front and 24 rear spokes.

ABLC™  (Aerodynamic Boundary Layer Control)

Advanced Boundary Layer Control (ABLC) refers to the patented and instantly recognizable dimpled pattern found on most of our rims. ABLC smoothes airflow across the rim's surface and is tailored to every model from the 202 to the Sub9 disc. 2009 sees the third-generation of ABLC, with up to 4 times more dimples than before. VCLC™  (Visco-Elastic Constrained Layer Control)

Visco-Elastic Constrained Layer Control (VCLC) uses a vibration-absorbing material sandwiched between layers of rigid carbon laminate in the rim. When the wheel receives an impact from the road, much of the shock is absorbed by the VCLC system, delivering a 10% reduction in vibration. Read More

Carbon Bridge™

Carbon Bridge uses a Kevlar® thread in a co-axial helix stitch to bind sheets of carbon to each other in our tubular rims. Because Kevlar is 350% more impact resistant than carbon, it can disperse shock more evenly throughout the carbon laminate, making for a rim that is practically bulletproof. In particular, Carbon Bridge reduces the vulnerability of the rim's tire bed, the area most susceptible to damage from impact. Read More

88/188 Hub Technology

Every aspect of our 88 and 188 hubs sets a new benchmark. The standard steel bearings are the roundest in the industry. The 17mm axle is the stiffest of any road hub we've tested. The wire EDM-cut hub internals are the most precise. The SHIFT spoke hole technolgoy is the most durable. When it comes to precision and performance, there's really no comparison. Read More
