Tame The Wind. Defy Gravity

202 Tubular

Weighing in at only 1,115 g, the 202 is a versatile racing wheelset that also happens to climb like a mountain goat. Look back through the crucial stages of recent Grand Tours and you’ll find the 202 winning stages, capturing leader’s jerseys and practically floating up the world’s toughest climbs.

The 202 was Alberto Contador’s wheel of choice during nearly every stage on his way to victory at the 2011 Giro d’Italia, proving that it’s a formidable weapon on any terrain. And Zipp® triathlete Jan Frodeno won an Olympic gold medal on the 202. Proving its durability, the 202 had even been ridden to a fourth place finish at Paris-Roubaix.
To get to the base of the climb, the 202’s 32 mm toroidal profile was developed in the wind tunnel to roll on the flats as efficiently as many 45 to 50 mm rims. After the summit, the 202’s high lateral stiffness delivers precise handling on tricky descents and crisp accelerations to finish off the competition.

We’ve spec’d the 202 with our 88/188 hubset, improved for 2012 with a wider bearing stance for greater stiffness and available in Beyond Black or Falcon Grey versions. The hubs feature external spoke nipples for easier service with no aero penalty. Zipp’s VCLC™ and Carbon Bridge™ technologies ensure that the 202’s ride is comfortable, smooth and rock solid.

Note: Zipp wheels for model year 2013, which began shipping in October 2012, are compatible with cassettes of up to 11-speed to work with all modern drivetrains.

Gen Now. Christian Vande Velde.  May 2009

Road Magazine recently spoke with Christian Vande Velde....here is what he had to say about his experience with Zipp:

You’ve been using Zipp wheels for four years, what models are you going to be using this year? When the 1080’s came out I rode it around the parking lot, tested it in the wind tunnel and knew it was going to be a great wheel. The new 202’s have come a long way. They use to keep those in the trailer only to use on climbing days. Now those wheels are great and can be used for almost everything. They’re really fast on the flats and awesome on the climbs. Zipp is great and I don’t think there’s anyone better as far as the whole line of wheels go. From the flats, to the climbs, to the time trials, they are the best wheels on the market.

88/188 Hub Technology

Every aspect of our 88 and 188 hubs sets a new benchmark. The standard steel bearings are the roundest in the industry. The 17mm axle is the stiffest of any road hub we've tested. The wire EDM-cut hub internals are the most precise. When it comes to precision and performance, there's really no comparison.
