303s Rule Cobbles of Tour

Fabian Cancellera of Team Saxo Bank regained the Mallot Jaune as he escorted teammate and GC (general classification) contender Andy Schleck to the front of the race and through the cobbled sectors of the Tour’s stage three.  Meanwhile, teammate and Andy’s elder brother, Frank Schleck was forced to abandon the race with a broken collarbone as a result of a hard crash on the stones.

Cervelo’s Thor Hushovd sprang to the front of the Cancellera and Schleck group, crossing the line first on Zipp 303s and putting himself in the Mallot Verte.  The Norwegian’s victory marked another for the Zipp 303s on the world’s toughest roads and a second stage win for Zipp at the Tour.  The first coming in the opening prologue with Fabian Cancellera riding a Zipp Super-9 Disc and a Zipp 1080 front wheel.

Astana’s Alberto Contador successfully navigated the cobbles, gaining time on key rivals and positioning himself less than 2 minutes off of Fabian’s GC lead.
