Top Cyclocross Racers Choose Zipp

After capturing three US national titles in its initial foray into cyclocross, the Zipp 303 wheelset returns for the 2010-2011 season on board the bikes of an elite group of athletes including Katie Compton and Team Cannondale prepared by

As proven with wins on the cobblestones of Paris-Roubaix and the Tour de France, the 303’s 27.5mm-wide rim provides superb impact resistance, a supple ride quality, and surefooted handling on rough surfaces – making it ideal for cyclocross.

“The 303 is light, strong, comfortable, and quick-handling, and cyclocross is a great way for us to showcase that versatility. It’s also a great platform to launch our new Service Course line of aluminum components,” commented Zipp marketing manager Andy Paskins.

Indeed, Cannondale-Cyclocrossworld riders Jeremy Powers, Jamey Driscoll, Kaitlin Antonneau and current US champ Tim Johnson will be equipped with Zipp Service Course SL bars, stems, and seatposts.

Team manager Stu Thorne said, “All our guys loved racing on the 303s last year. They’re light and stiff, and they never gave us any problems with maintenance or durability. We tested the new Service Course SL products over the summer and had the same results.”

Compton, who has won six consecutive US championships and led the UCI world rankings for much of last season, will ride the 303 along with Zipp’s carbon VumaQuad crankset and SLC2 bar for the second straight year.

“Cyclocross is incredibly tough on every part of your bike,” she said, “but I have total confidence in every piece of equipment from Zipp. The wider rims on the 303 provide awesome traction and stability, especially in sand and slippery mud, plus added pinch flat resistance.”

Other athletes racing on the 303 this fall include two-time US cyclocross champion Todd Wells, Danish world cup stalwart Joachim Parbo (also on Service Course SL bars, stems, and seatposts), and the California Giant cyclocross team featuring Meredith Miller, who placed second to Compton at last year’s US nationals and 12th at the world championships.

“Team Cannondale prepared by Cyclocrossworld, Compton, Wells, and the California Giant cyclocross team will again be powered by SRAM drivetrain components.”

In addition to athlete sponsorships, Zipp will be the official wheels of the Greenware® US Gran Prix of Cyclocross, while the Service Course brand will serve as the official bars, stems, and seatposts of America’s marquee cyclocross race series.
