Zipp Speed Weaponry®’s full line of purpose-built wheels will support the diverse needs of the Omega Pharma®- Quick-Step® professional cycling team for the 2012 season and beyond. In addition, the Belgian-based powerhouse team will ride Zipp’s versatile and durable Service Course® SL bars, stems and seatposts as well as its lightweight carbon bars.

Zipp also has renewed its sponsorship of the Saxo Bank cycling team. In addition to riding Zipp wheels and SRAM drivetrains, Saxo Bank this year adds Zipp Service Course SL bars, stems and seatposts as it looks to win the world’s biggest races. Also in 2012, Team Exergy TWENTY12, one of the world’s top women’s teams, will race on the full line of Zipp wheels, Service Course SL and Tangente tires.

The requirements of these top professional cyclists are as varied as the Zipp products they’ll be riding. The Zipp 303 Firecrest® wheel is designed to take the punishment dished out by Paris-Roubaix and Tour of Flanders, legendary races won on Zipp wheels. The multipurpose 404 Firecrest is perfect for the varied terrain of road races. The 808 Firecrest is a proven performer in road races and time trials.

“Superior aerodynamics and performance are crucial at all times in professional cycling. Zipp understands this and matches our athletes with wheels for every terrain and race condition,” said Patrick Lefevere, Omega Pharma- Quick-Step team manager. “We embrace a spirit of innovation and collaboration from our equipment providers and sponsors. Zipp is the perfect partner for Omega Pharma-Quick-Step because it always strives to be forward-thinking and is unafraid of change.”

At Omega Pharma-Quick-Step, Tom Boonen is a Classics specialist and sprinter and German Tony Martin the world time trial champ. American Levi Leipheimer is a proven performer in stage races. Czech Zdenek Stybar, the world cyclocross champ, has already been racing the 303 Firecrest.

Saxo Bank will look to build on milestone wins on Zipp wheels last season that included Alberto Contador, who relied on the Zipp 202 at the Giro d’Italia, and Nick Nuyens, who rode the 303 to a thrilling Tour of Flanders victory.

At Team Exergy TWENTY12, 2008 Olympic gold medalist Kristin Armstrong uses the Super-9 disc and 808 Firecrest as her weapon’s of choice for time trials. The team, with a focus on preparing riders for the 2012 Olympics, includes veterans such as Armstrong and talented younger riders such as Kaitlin Antonneau and Coryn Rivera.
