Zipp unleashes ultimate in Speed Weaponry

Zipp Speed Weaponry is proud to introduce two revolutionary additions to its diverse lineup of purpose-built wheels. The Super-9 Carbon Clincher Disc promises to be a game changer in triathlons and time trials. The 202 Firecrest® Carbon Clincher is the latest expansion of the highly acclaimed Firecrest lineup, transforming Zipp’s venerable climber’s wheel into a nimble and aero do-it-all speed weapon.

Super-9 Carbon Clincher: Super just got better

The Zipp® Super-9 Carbon Clincher Disc (MSRP $2,375, €2,200) is the fastest wheel ever, with the added ease-of-use of a clincher. Nothing is sacrificed in speed. This is the culmination of our quarter century of experience molding carbon into Speed Weaponry®. The Super-9 Carbon Clincher optimizes supreme aerodynamics, power transfer, stiffness, lightweight and durability – all with the convenience and low rolling resistance of our Carbon Clincher technology.

Tony Martin of Omega Pharma – Quick-Step Cycling Team was one of the first to ride the Super-9 Carbon Clincher, validating what we saw in the wind tunnel and on the computer screen on the road with top performances including a victory in the German National Time Trial Championship and a silver medal in London. The Super-9 Carbon Clincher paired with the 808 Firecrest Carbon Clincher offers a new world of options for time trialists and triathletes alike.

“The future of time trialing and triathlon is with clinchers, and the Zipp Super-9 Carbon Clincher Disc is leading the way. It’s about grip, speed, performance and rolling resistance. It’s really about winning and losing,” said Rolf Aldag, a triathlete and former pro cyclist who also is technical adviser for  the Omega Pharma – Quick-Step Cycling Team. “Tony Martin absolutely trusts the Super-9 Carbon Clincher.”

Zipp’s Carbon Clincher technology makes it possible to create a disc with an optimal aero shape but with the added convenience of a clincher, such as being able to switch tires to best suit variables in the course or weather conditions. “It takes two minutes to change the tire on a clincher,” Aldag said. “You keep that flexibility.”
Compatible with cassettes of up to 11-speed to work with all modern drivetrains. Choose from Classic White or Beyond Black color options. Available in November.

202 Firecrest Carbon Clincher: Speed and stability on every road you travel

The all-new 202 Firecrest Carbon Clincher (MSRP $2,725, €2,525) is all about aiming higher. Zipp took its 202 wheelset, a climber’s best friend, and remade it by adding revolutionary Firecrest rim and Carbon Clincher technologies. At 1,375 grams, the 202 Firecrest Carbon Clincher is the lightest in Zipp’s Carbon Clincher lineup and is a plucky all-around performer that floats up mountains and provides superior aerodynamics and stability on the flats and descents.

With the rim depth of 32 mm and a maximum rim width of 25.4 mm, the 202 Firecrest Carbon Clincher is the most aerodynamic wheel in its rim depth and is faster than many deeper-section wheels. Greater speed is achieved by doing more than shaving seconds off a wind-tunnel datasheet or grams off total weight. Wheels must be stable, reliable and handle well, especially in crosswinds. The 202 Firecrest Carbon Clincher brings it all together.

“The 202 Firecrest Carbon Clincher forced me to re-evaluate where I could ride such a light pair of wheels -- besides the longest climbs I could find, it was really everywhere else that I realized how special they were,” said Tim Johnson, veteran pro cyclist and member of the Cannondale prepared by Professional Cyclocross Team. “My training has been varied and the 202 Firecrest was the perfect wheel in every situation. From motorpacing to TT work to dirt road climbs at elevation, they were always light, stiff and I could just toss in a new tube if I flatted.”

Compatible with cassettes of up to 11-speed to work with all modern drivetrains. Choose from Classic White or Beyond Black color options. Available in October.

SLSpeed post now has 0 mm setback option

Also new, Zipp is expanding its popular SLSpeed carbon seatpost ($295, €264) to be available in a 0 mm setback option, as well as the previously offered 20 mm setback position. The 0 mm option provides riders with more ways to optimize fit and efficiency on the bike. The SLSpeed is the choice many of the top pros on the Omega Pharma – Quick-Step Cycling Team and Team Saxo Bank – Tinkoff Bank. Available in October.

Tangente Platinum Pro Evo Brake Pad Inserts

Also new, the Zipp Tangente Platinum Pro Evo Brake Pads are included with all of Zipp’s carbon wheels. The pads also are available for purchase separately in packs of two ($40, €36) for SRAM®, Shimano® or Campagnolo® brake-pad holders. The new pads are designed to provide optimal braking for carbon surfaces, including a greater surface area for maximum braking power, improved clearance to work with integrated brakes and a new groove pattern for improved braking in wet conditions. Available in October.
