Speed Weaponry for Stage Hunting at Tour de France

The Omega Pharma – Quick-Step Cycling Team rolls into the 2014 Tour de France well prepared, well drilled and well armed with Speed Weaponry. The Belgian-based powerhouse team, no doubt, is built to support Mark Cavendish for sprint wins. But the OPQS roster is filled with stage hunters, yellow jersey candidates and even a GC threat from a lineup including world time trial champ Tony Martin, Paris-Roubaix winner Niki Terpstra and Strade Bianche champ Michal Kwiatkowski. Other threats include Jan Bakelants -- a stage winner and yellow jersey wearer last year -- and Matteo Trentin, who also won a stage in 2013.

More about the 2014 Tour
Saturday, July 5, through Sunday, July 27, with 21 stages covering 3,664 kilometers… This year’s race starts in the United Kingdom and, on Stage 5, includes 15.4 kilometers of cobblestones from the famed Queen of the Classics.

9 flat stages (Territory of the ultra-aero efficient and crosswind stable Zipp 404 Firecrest. Cav and much of his sprint train also rely on the carbon Zipp SL Sprint Stem, which has the highest stiffness-to-weight ratio of any stem on the market. Watch, also, for Tony Martin to potentially use his new favorite bar, the carbon SL-70 Aero.)

5 hill stages (Terrain for the 404 Firecrest as well as the Spring Classics-proven 303 Firecrest, which is sure to be the wheel of choice for the cobbles, too. Many also depend on the SL Speed seatpost for its light weight and secure fit.)

6 mountain stages with 5 altitudes finishes (When the road heads skyward, watch for the 202 Tubular. Zipp’s lineup of Service Course SL bars, stems and seatposts also provide the fit and efficiency for tough days in the saddle.)

1 individual time trial stage (Zipp 808 Firecrest front paired with a Super-9 Disc is the Speed Weaponry of choice. World Time Trial Champ Tony Martin sometimes rides Zipp Carbon Clinchers for lower rolling resistance and flexibility in tire choice.)

2 rest days (Rest and massages for team, a nice thorough washing for Zipp wheels!)
